Generator Safety

During long-term power outages, many rely on portable generators for emergency power. The growing popularity of portable electric generators has resulted in millions being placed in homes and small businesses across the nation.  But, it's estimated only a small percentage is hooked up correctly. Safe Electricity and SIEC urge members to understand the proper safety steps that must be taken.

SIEC is the electric distribution cooperative serving homes and businesses in southernmost Illinois. Our 11,500 plus meters (8,500 plus members) are located in Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski and Union Counties. SIEC is a not-for-profit cooperative, which is part of the largest network of electric utilities in the nation. BILLING ALERT!  Beginning April 24, our online payment system will be shut down but will reopen on Monday, May 6 at 8 a.mAll current users must re-register their payment information through our new, user-friendly payment site called SmartHub on or after May 6. Just click on our Secure Payment Center in the upper left and it will prompt you to register. We apologize for any inconvience. We hope you now enjoy a quicker way to pay your bill online with SmartHub. You can also download the SmartHub app for free on iTunes or the Android app store if you like to pay your bills from your smart phone.
